About Us...
Carnivorous Plants are one of the most interesting and exciting family of plants in the world. Afterall, Carnivorous (or Insectivorous) Plants actually attract, trap, and digest insects to supplment the nutrients not available in their soil. Even Charles Darwin said, "I care more about Drosera (Sundews) than the origin of all the species in the world." Wow!
Indiana Insectivores is a hobby business with the goal of creating excitement for growing Carnivorous Plants to others. Since we are home-based, we currently can't offer public visits but, but we promise to do our best to share what we have in relevant venues as much as possible.
About Chad and Evan
My facination with Carnivorous Plants started when I was in the 5th grade. I remember begging my grandma to order me a Venus Flytrap bulb from a Johnson Smith Co., advertisement for .88. Being a great grandma, she gave me the money to order the bulb and even though I followed the instructions exactly, I didn't have the small plant for long. But, this didn't kill my facination in the slightest. I can also recall looking up every book and magazine article I could find on these awesome plants! One of the best articles I came across was the May, 1961 issue of National Geographic. There was an article by Paul Zahl, titled "Plants that Eat Insects". I must have read the article 1000 times and continue to read it over and over to this day!
Evan is my pre-teen son who has also caught the bug of growing these plants. Although he has many other interests, he is definitely my partner in crime with this exciting hobby!
We are far from experts with these plants. We keep it basic so to avoid the hobby becoming too much like work. And, we strive to keep it basic for others too.
We look forward to becoming the known source for these plants in Indiana and hope to help develop a whole new generation of CP hobbyists and conservationists for years to come!
